In short: We don't collect personal information. We use Google Analytics, Umami (self-hosted, cookieless), and lightweight custom analytics to understand how the site is used so we can make it better. We don't sell data and don't track you across other websites. Your Watchlist is stored locally on your device.

1. Introduction

Cointips.net ("the Website", "we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to being transparent about how we collect and use data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our Website, how we use it, and what choices you have.

By using Cointips.net, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Website.

2. Information We Collect

We do not require registration, login, or any personal information to use Cointips.net. We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it (for example, by contacting us or subscribing to notifications).

The information we collect automatically when you visit the Website includes:

Device and browser type (e.g. Chrome on Windows, Safari on iPhone)
Screen resolution and viewport size
Approximate geographic location (country and city level, derived from your IP address)
Pages visited, time spent on pages, and navigation paths
Referring website or source (how you arrived at Cointips.net)
Language and timezone settings
Interaction events such as clicks, scrolls, and feature usage

This data is collected in aggregate and is used solely to understand how visitors use the Website so we can improve it.

3. How We Collect Data

We use the following analytics tools to collect usage data:

Google Analytics We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to track and report website traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data. Google may use this data in accordance with their own privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Umami (self-hosted) We use Umami, an open-source cookieless analytics platform, which we host on our own servers. This means your analytics data is not shared with any third party. Umami collects anonymous usage data without setting any cookies and is configured to respect Do Not Track (DNT) browser settings.

Custom analytics We use lightweight, custom-built tracking to measure specific feature usage, page performance, and site health. This data is stored on our own infrastructure and is never shared with or sold to third parties. It is used exclusively to monitor Website performance and improve the user experience.

4. Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We use cookies for the following purposes:

Strictly necessary cookies These are required for core Website functionality, such as remembering your cookie consent preferences.

Analytics cookies These help us understand how visitors interact with the Website by collecting anonymous usage data. They are set by Google Analytics. Umami is cookieless and does not set cookies.

Preference cookies These remember your settings and choices, such as Watchlist data, which is stored locally in your browser using localStorage.

We do not use advertising cookies, remarketing cookies, or any cookies that track you across other websites. You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Disabling cookies may affect certain features of the Website.

5. How We Use Your Data

The data we collect is used exclusively to:

Understand which pages and features are most popular so we can prioritize improvements
Monitor Website performance, uptime, and loading speeds
Identify and fix technical issues, bugs, and errors
Analyze traffic patterns and user flows to improve navigation and usability
Understand which devices, browsers, and screen sizes our visitors use so we can optimize compatibility
Measure the effectiveness of new features or design changes

We do not use collected data for advertising, profiling, automated decision-making, or any purpose other than improving the Website.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes.

The only third party that receives analytics data through our use of their service is Google, through Google Analytics. This data is anonymous and subject to Google's own privacy policy and data processing terms.

All data collected through Umami and our custom analytics is stored on our own servers and is never shared with any external party.

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to comply with legal obligations, protect our rights, or ensure the safety of our users.

7. Data Retention

Analytics data collected through Google Analytics is retained according to Google's default retention settings, which we have configured to 14 months.

Data collected through Umami and our custom analytics is retained for a maximum of 24 months, after which it is automatically deleted or anonymized.

You can request deletion of any data associated with your visit by contacting us. However, as we do not collect personally identifiable information, it may not be possible to identify your specific data in our records.

8. Local Storage

Certain features of the Website, such as the Watchlist, use your browser's local storage (localStorage) to save your preferences and selections. This data is stored entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings. Clearing local storage will reset features like your Watchlist.

9. Do Not Track

We respect the Do Not Track (DNT) signal sent by your browser. When DNT is enabled:

Umami will not track your visit
Custom analytics will respect your preference where technically feasible

Please note that Google Analytics does not currently support the DNT signal. If you wish to opt out of Google Analytics tracking, we recommend using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or a browser-based content blocker.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your data under applicable privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar legislation. These rights may include:

The right to access any personal data we hold about you
The right to request correction of inaccurate data
The right to request deletion of your data
The right to restrict or object to processing of your data
The right to data portability
The right to withdraw consent at any time

As we do not collect personally identifiable information in normal use of the Website, most of these rights may not be applicable. However, if you have voluntarily provided personal data (such as an email address) or wish to exercise any of these rights, please contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

11. Children's Privacy

Cointips.net is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

12. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data we collect from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. The Website is served over HTTPS to encrypt data in transit.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Website after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
